This bold and juicy bean originates from the lakeside region of the Rutsiro District in Rwanda. Located on the shores of Lake Kivu, the Mushonyi coffee washing station celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their Cup of Excellence win - a prize which awards high quality coffee lots. This washing station is comprised of over 1,200 smallholder farmers, each contributing to the production of this coffee.
Rwanda’s rich volcanic soils, rainfall distribution and clement yearlong temperatures assists in the slow maturation of the coffee bean, creating a distinctive taste in the cup.
The Rwanda Rutsiro District is washed, with the cherries fermented in tanks for 24 hours before being thoroughly washed to remove the mucilage. The parchment is then dried on raised beds made of wood and mesh.
With tasting notes of clove, toffee apple, and apricot, this is for the black coffee drinker who likes a rich and fruity flavour.
