The Bababudan Giris are mountains within the Western Ghats in India. The area is named after a 16th century Sufi poet, Baba Budan, to whom there is a dedicated shrine in the region that is frequently visited by both Muslim and Hindu pilgrims. Baba Budan is said to have been the first to introduce coffee to India after bringing the crop from Africa. All coffee in India is cultivated under a well-defined two-tier mixed shade canopy, comprising evergreen and leguminous trees. Nearly 50 different types of shade trees are found in coffee plantations. Shade trees prevent soil erosion on a sloping terrain; they enrich the soil by recycling nutrients from deeper layers, protect the coffee plant from seasonal fluctuations in temperature, and play host to diverse flora and fauna. For each bag of green coffee sold, our supplier donates US$1 towards the conservation and research of Indian tigers in Kahna National Park in the Mandla and Balaghat regions of India. Kenya has excellent conditions for cultivating coffee, especially in the highlands where there is both a stable climate and rich volcanic soil. The cherries are often handpicked and graded according to the parchment weight prior to processing. After being delivered to the wet factory, the coffee is pulped and fermented in washing tanks for 24 to 48 hours. The parchment coffee is then cleaned and soaked to remove any remaining fruit and spread on raised drying tables. During drying, the parchment is frequently turned by hand and when the parchment has dried to the desired moisture level, it is taken to the dry mill to be hulled. Nestled in the breathtaking Wahgi Valley, this coffee plantation not only cultivates exceptional beans but also carries a captivating history that weaves together the threads of tradition, craftsmanship, and the ever-evolving dynamics of global trade. The Wahgi Valley has been the ancestral home of the Tungei tribe, a community that emerged from six original clans - Komnemb, Ekiemb, Kenjpi-emb, Akamb, Eska, and Kupaka. Their legacy stretches beyond the lush landscapes of the valley, as they were pioneers in the discovery of stone axe quarries. Renowned for their craftsmanship, the Tungei tribe gained widespread recognition for their creation of the kunjin, a stone axe that held significant value and was traded extensively in central New Guinea. However, changes occurred to their thriving industry in 1933 through the introduction of pearshells by the first Australian patrol to land in Papua New Guinea. The once highly-prized stone axes faced a sharp decline in demand, marking a turning point in the Tungei tribe's economic landscape. Yet, resilience is ingrained in their identity, and today, the Tungei people have adapted to a life of subsistence agriculture, cultivating pigs, sweet potatoes, corn, sugarcane, bananas, and an array of vibrant green-leafed vegetables. In the embrace of the Wahgi Valley's ideal coffee-growing conditions, the Tungei Selection Plantation flourishes at altitudes ranging from 1400 to 2200 meters above sea level. Families have chosen to relocate to the valley floor at approximately 1600 meters above sea level, where coffee production is more accessible and the Highlands Highway facilitates transportation via bus and truck. This vibrantly aromatic and robust coffee features tasting notes of dried apricot, lime and Brazil nuts. We recommend enjoying it as a long black or single espresso, although those who enjoy milk based coffees will find this bean to offer a full-bodied and rich result. 1868 fb-p-7700349714624 fb-v-44463919366336 new 54.00 AUDin stock http://venn.coffee/cdn/shop/files/papua-new-guinea-wahgi-valley_grande.jpg?v=1706352652 Venn SPY-COFFEE-BEANS Beans brightFruit Dried Apricot, Lime and Brazil Nuts 1.025 kg Brazil Terra Nova Farm https://venn.coffee/products/brazil-terra-nova-farm?variant=45064666775744 The Brazil Terra Nova (formerly known as Brazil Andira) is sourced from  the Mantiqueira de Minas region of the Minas Gerais state of Brazil. Under Rafael Vinhal's leadership, this farm, established in 1988, boasts numerous certifications reflecting their commitment to sustainability and quality. Upholding these standards involves meeting criteria in environmental conservation, ethical labor practices, and efficient management across the production chain. The climate of the Cerrado Mineiro is marked by a pronounced dry season and a rainy season, with temperatures varying widely throughout the year. This climate, coupled with the region's altitude and soil composition, creates ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. The Process Brazilian washed coffees are celebrated for their distinctive flavour profile and consistent quality, making them a staple in the specialty coffee industry. The washed process is a method of coffee bean preparation that involves removing the cherry fruit from the coffee seed before drying. During the washing process, freshly harvested coffee cherries are pulped to separate the bean from the surrounding fruit. They are then fermented in water to remove any remaining mucilage - the sticky layer covering the beans. After fermentation, the beans are thoroughly washed and then dried until they reach the desired moisture content. Uniquely, the Vinhal Farm Washed is double fermented. Double fermented coffee beans undergo a unique two-stage fermentation process, intensifying their flavour profile and complexity. Initially soaked to remove mucilage, they then undergo a controlled secondary fermentation, enhancing aroma, acidity, and overall richness. The Varietal Red Catuai is known for its productivity, often yielding high quantities of cherries per tree. The plant's compact size makes it suitable for densely planted fields, allowing for efficient land use and easier harvesting. This varietal is predominantly grown in Brazil, particularly in regions such as Minas Gerais and São Paulo, where its adaptability to different altitudes and climates allows for widespread cultivation. However, Red Catuai has also been successfully introduced to other coffee-growing regions worldwide, including Central America and parts of Africa.
