Our coffee has been sourced from the producer Gil Cesar de Melo who operates Espigão Farm in the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil.
History
Producer Gil Cesar de Melo's grandfather, Sr Miguel Constante was a coffee grower in the Campos Altos township. His grandfather passed this inheritance to Gil Cesar's mother Elizena who later passed the same passion for coffee to her son. Gil has great memories from his childhood when he used to spend weekends and vacations with his grandfather on the farm. When he was six years old, he loved to be in the coffee fields. Today a fourth generation has inherited this same passion for coffee, and Gil's children Edu and Hugo are contributing their own ideas and perspectives which are leading to increasing innovation on the family farm.
Location
In 1995, Gil planted his first six hectares of coffee and this has since expanded - always seeking to invest in the quality of his output. Espigão Farm is located in the municipality of Pratinha, in the state of Minas Gerais. His properties are located in the Cerrado Mineiro region, which experiences balanced growing conditions of hot and humid Summers and mild and dry Winters. These growing conditions all contribute towards elevating the quality of the coffee. The farm is located amongst mountainous terrain, with high altitudes and a good rainfall index. These conditions have resulted in enhanced aromatic qualities across the coffee grown at Espigão Farm.
Values
Alongside his passion for coffee, Gil values and respects the forest area around his farms and encourages his employees to also preserve and take care of the environment. The coffees produced on Espigão Farm undertake rigorous quality checks, from the initial stages of the production through to the processing and post-harvest. All this care results in a very high quality coffee.
With tasting notes of pomegranate, chardonnay and blood orange this is a delightfully juicy and sweet coffee which shines when had as a single espresso or a filter style coffee without milk.
