Kabare is a Farmers Cooperative Society (F.C.S.) in the Kirinyaga county. Made up of 9,300 members and 11 washing stations, the co-op produce about 8,000 bags of green coffee per year.
The region’s soil is mostly clay loam and stretches all the way to the forests at the foot of Mount Kenya. The coffee cherries are hand-sorted before undergoing a pulped washed method of processing, before being dried on raised sun beds.
Peaberries are actually mutations, that make up only 5% of crops, with one whole "pea-like" bean growing inside a cherry instead of two halves. This gives the coffee a uniquely intense and punchy flavour that peaberry fans go wild for.
